WHY IT IS BETTER TO SETTLE MATTERS RELATED TO DISABILITY
Disputes related to disability usually arise because of differences amongst us in terms of our awareness and accommodation of the needs of persons with disabilities. Traditionally, disability advocacy processes relating to disability awareness and accommodation needs have been complaint driven, and very much prone to achieving slow, if any results. Disputants have often had to resort to litigation or regulatory processes on a specific issue such as a contravention of a human right or labour standard. Often those processes have been too restrictive or costly to be significantly successful.
Implementing dispute resolution methods in the context of disability shows great promise; beit for resolving disputes related to personal needs, or improving community or societal awareness of disability.
